Artist Bio

I have always been a collector... ticket stubs, postcards, gum wrappers. I'm perpetually tearing pages from magazines. My desk is littered with scraps of paper holding provocative quotes or interesting images. It's only in recent years that I've actually started to produce the tangible evidence of my art, but I have been a collage artist my entire life - stockpiling scraps of inspiration that I am always sure I'll get around to using some day. In fact, I'm almost sure I have a few of those little wooden ice cream 'spoons' from kindergarten.

I'm self-taught, no formal training in art.
I have undergraduate degrees in psychology and philosophy and a Masters in Social Work. I spent a decade doing victim's advocacy work and then discovered that writing and art were excellent therapy for burnout. I am fascinated by stories and story telling. Social Work is about listening to people's stories and trying to guide them down the path towards the happy ending. Writing is using words, obviously, to tell a story of your own - happy ending or no. And art... I love the notion of gathering images and other elements into a work that whispers of captivating and mysterious stories.

My husband and I have a tradition of buying a Christmas ornament each time we travel to a new city or country. Over the years, we have amassed quite a collection, with each ornament telling a part of the story of our lives together. Collage is the same for me. Each individual element supplies a piece of the story. A finished work takes a bit from this journey and a snatch from that one and evokes a world of it's own for the viewer to explore. Or, if you have an affinity for altered art, it at least shows you the world from a different perspective - a view you might not have stumbled upon on your own.

That's the idea, at least. That's what I try to do... create new worlds or at least offer intriguing views into little corners of existing ones.
I like enigmatic pieces... hints as opposed to specific details, works that tell a slightly different story for each viewer.
If I'm successful, I'll be able to capture your imagination for a moment or two.
